My Classroom

The first time I ever saw my room
As usual, my classroom is a work in progress. It is constantly changing with the wind and I am making adaption everyday to meet the needs of the students and the needs of classroom organization. Not to mention, each day I am given different furniture and I have to rearrange these pieces in order to make my room a functional space. These pictures showcase my classroom as of the end of September.

On the 27th of September, we were told that we would no longer have classrooms. Instead, the teachers would move from class to class and the boys would stay in the room they were assigned. It has been quite the challenge to ensure that I have packed everything for the entire day. Considering I teach 2nd and 3rd grade, I must carry both 2nd grade curriculum as well as 3rd grade. I've been using my rolling chair as a resource! I stack my materials on that baby, and roll out! Literally.

I started putting up my word wall and display for student work. On the desks are the leveled readers I found in gym.
This is the gym...I've never worked so hard looking for resources for my classroom until now. Leaving this room I
looked like I had walked through all the sand in the world and then jumped in a big pile of flour. Many of us ended
up sick, with sinus infections. Another post..

With the moving back and forth, this means the Arabic Teachers must teach in LT classrooms. Hence the reason why
my desks are in rows. On the back board is a project we did using noodles. The children had to count to ten and
show the number. I wish I would have taught primary grades before coming here. I must research strategies and lessons
to use to ensure the students are learning the material. Not to mention the language barrier! De-fee-cult!

I rarely ever spend time at my desk and with the constant random deliveries, I usually just pile things there to keep
order and transitions going with the kids. This is how my room was set up at the end of September. 6 groups of 4 students. I was told not to decorate too much as I might have to switch rooms again. I've already switched kids...twice!

Another view of the classroom with 6 groups of 4. I usually have 4 centers, and 2 centers twice, a reading center and a work with teacher center. Everything has to be a manipulation. Considering they don't read english and have diffficulty communicating in english, most of my centers are geared toward learning the alphabet and phonemes. However, phonemes are usually the teacher center because in order to learn phonemes you must HEAR the sound! SMH!
